CENTRAL BANK
(центральный банк) Банк, который оказывает финансовые и банковские услуги правительству и коммерческой банковской системе своей страны, а также проводит в жизнь государственную денежно-кредитную политику. Основными функциями центрального банка являются следующие: ведение государственных счетов; принятие депозитных вкладов коммерческих банков и предоставление им займов; контролирование выпуска банкнот; управление государственным долгом; помощь, в случае необходимости, в регулировании валютных курсов; влияние на структуру процентных ставок и контроль за денежной массой в обращении; поддержание государственных резервов в золоте и иностранной валюте; ведение дел с другими центральными банками и деятельность в качестве кредитора последней инстанции по отношению к банковской системе. Среди основных центральных банков можно назвать Банк Англии (Bank of England) в Великобритании, Федеральный резервный банк США (см.: Federal Reserve System), Бундесбанк в Германии, французский “Банк де Франс” и Банк Японии (Bank of Japan).
